Sin tener el conocimiento de lgonber, yo estoy en proceso de crearme una cartera de clinical-stage biotechs... este foro es un lujo en cuánto a generación de ideas / intercambio de opiniones, y luego siempre hago mi propia pequeña DD.
Como sabéis, ya llevo pequeñas participaciones de varias (CASC / ESPR / EDIT), y tengo a otras en el punto de mira (CLDX / NTLA / NVIV / HZNP), pero todo el tema de NVAX me ha hecho entender que este debe ser el camino para mi. Warren Buffet dice que la diversificación es para los ignorantes, pero es que yo lo soy en esta materia, y entiendo que una "apuesta" acertada me puede cubrir 4/5 fracasos. Así pues, en vez de ir "a fondo" en la Novavax de turno, tengo la idea de construir una cartera con pequeños paquetes de 10-20 clinical-stage biotechs y ver como crecen (o se estampan). La diferencia es que en mi caso esa cartera no será el 100% de mi inversión en bolsa, sino entorno al 20%.

Sí. Y el amigo sigue empeñado en errores que le han señalado en su artículo pasado como el número de sujetos. Eso no me gusta nada, denota poca honestidad intelectual. Y es posible que no se pueda demostrar en años de bajo ratio de contagio la efectividad, pero lo que me gustaría saber es si en alguno de esos estudios el grupo de placebo tuvo menos infecciones que los de la vacuna...
Sobre las declaraciones de la compañía sobre que los datos que tenían eran los de infantes y que por eso se equivocaron, un mensaje que comparto plenamente de Anne Bubnic sobre este tema y por qué tiene muy poca credibilidad:
Epidemiologists have data going back 50 years! How did the CDC and other reporting agencies get all of this attack rate data exclusively on babies but now the charts are wrong when it comes to seniors? Dr. Glenn obviously knows the attack rates for senior adults (3-7%) - so where are those charts? They were relying on a 5-year chart that records the attack rate of children to infer that their seasonality would fall in line?
The ACIP working group states that the importance of identifying/preventing RSV was first recognized "with outbreaks in care facilities for older adults." This explains why Novavax went this route. But what if these facilities are already reducing patient susceptibility to infection with better infection-control precautions? It wouldn't change the underlying host defenses of the elderly. But it might help them escape illness. Had someone been charting this on an annual basis, these influences might be known.
So the question remains - is this due to improved facility hygiene at these residential communities -- or other circumstances? If NVAX scientists are going to make a statement about sudden differences in attack rates, then someone needs to isolate and compare the attack rates among the two sub-group attack populations (babies and seniors) annually and address the influence of improved precautions for infectious control in senior environments.
I get that we're going w the lower attack rate theory. But there's no history of this in 50 years? You can bet that the ACIP Work Group will be scrambling to make sense of this now. We may have set back the advances of not only Novavax, but also their competitors.

creo que la idea de Buffet tampoco era jugársela toda a una carta, trantor, eso es un suma-zero (más o menos), te lo llevas todo hasta el día en que fallas, y entonces lo pierdes todo y se te acabó el juego. ese es el unico final posible y más tarde o más temprano, te llega.
creo que la idea de buffet era centrarse en unas pocas empresas, el número depende de lo que tú seas capaz de gestionar. la cuestión es que has de ser capaz de conocerlas a todas a fondo, como si fueras.. bueno, como si fueras lo que eres: su propietario
